Sleeping Beauty

Does anyone know really where the story of Sleeping Beauty would have taken place?  Im interested to know where the spark may have set off for this story to be envisaged.  Surely the writer would have had some idea of where to base their fantasy.

I think it's a bit of a betrayal on the human imagination to say that all stories are based on actual events. Not only that, what events would they be? A missing girl, an abandoned castle?
