these old folk tales work because they aren't just flower fairies and flopsy bunnies, they can deal with bad dreams and deep fears. King Lear and Cinderella have the same starting point, the two ugly sisters favoured by the king and the virtuous but scorned younger sister. Wicked stepmothers were a real thing when widowed parents remarried and favoured the children of the new union over those of the old one.

Stories are seldom "just" fairy tales.

This is one of the many any of the 'fairy tales' having a very dark origin, the Brothers Grimm lived up to their name, but these days it is sanitised to make it suitable for children and, as long as it is presented in that way, there's nothing to complain about. The girl got her Prince, she would have sent a selfie to all her followers bragging about him, OMG how he kisses!
you left out the sexting, zebo
I had to laugh at my little grandson a couple of years ago. He liked me to tell him story of Three Little Pigs at bed time. I used to tell him the nice version where little pigs escape the big bad wolf and all live happily ever after. He asked me one night if the wolf could please eat the pigs up! So I did. He had a wicked smile on his face.....
