I had a spooky experience last night!

We live on the old site of a mental hospital (its nice really). A few ghostly going ons have occured previously and a clairvoyant told us we had a portal in the lounge after doing a home reading! We out our hands in the place and were met with an icy blast of air! So we do believe her.
Last night I was fast asleep when there was a loud scratching noise at the door. I nearly sh*t myself. When I turned the light on of course there was nothing there. Our daughter was asleep, the cat was out and is always locked downstairs anyway. So there's no explanation. All I can say is it was like someone had run their fingernails down the door making a noise that was loud enough to wake me! I was definitely not dreaming. what do you think?

Hi Tigerlily the house isn't an old building its 3 yrs old but built on the site of an old building! I have heard horrible rumours about the old hospital before moving here and I worked in one of the old buildings myself too but it didn't put me off! If you want more details here goes;
*our little girl was 13months when we moved here and we once saw her bottle move across the table on its own
*we have seen child like figures out of the corner of our eye at times that vanish when you blink!
*once hubby came upstairs and saw the figure disappear into where the clairvoyant said the portal was
*we have heard voices and movement upstairs loads of times and thought our daughter was up when really she was fast asleep
*we both felt something brush past us and go into the corner of the room and again were convinced it was our little girl but she was in the other room
We have an old map of the site and our house was built on the women and babies section! It sounds awful doesn't it but until last night nothing has made me feel scared before. The cat has stared at things before but cats do sometimes don't they!

tigwig, there are serious scientists who investigate these things and I don't mean the beards and sandals brigade with electric boxes of spit string and plasticine, we had them here, one came from austria and a couple of computer experts who work for the CIA

I think you probably have got spirits in the house.

My daughter and her husband (who is a bit psychic) lived in a house which was haunted by 2 spirits - one did them no harm, but the other was really malevolent. They heard footsteps in the hall upstairs, the children used to be woken up etc. When they went out, everything downstairs would be tidied up and the place would be absolutely spotless! They eventually got a psychic person in and she said that the house the spirits of a married couple. The old man was upstairs and it was him that evil and the woman was downstairs and she was the one tidying up. One night my daughter went upstairs to check on the children and actually saw her eldest son (about 5 at the time) being lifted up from the pillow. She said it was as tho someone had him by the scruff of the neck and was shaking him.

They stayed in the house for 6 months and things got so bad with the evil spirit, who was apparently trying to intimidate my son-in-law, they had to leave the house in the end.

Yep so you said tig.
My mistake. It's built n the grounds of an old mental hospital.
Have you looked into the histry of the hospital?
How long it was there and so on.
It would seem that the history may have a lot to do with whats happening.
Cats do react to things just as dogs do. They tend to be aware of things that we may not notice.
Staring isn't a reaction but if the cat runs from a room for no apparent reason it maybe it saw something that it didn't like.
it was common place for asylums to have children of inmates there. This will also depend on how old it is.
These are people whos minds were not right for one reason or another. Depending on how old the place was there would also have been those who should not have been there. This may lead them to madness on its own.
This is just a suggestion but don't do anything that may bring them forward. Anything like ouija boards and things like that. unstable minds are strong and will latch onto it.
ARe you in a detatched house. If not prehaps a naighbors tv could account for the voices.
If thats not the case then this could be past events infringing on the present.You would be suprised at the many hauntings that this covers.
I'm not one for Clairvoyants myself but if it makes you feel any better and you can find a good one then by all means talk to one.
Other than that bide your time. It may pass. But above all else they cannot hurt you. Only the living can do that.
