I am looking to buy a laptop with my sister as a gift for our mum for xmas. When is the best time to get a bargain?
I have the money now so if its best to just get one when I see one then I can. Or would it be better to get soemthing nearer christmas? I really dont need anything too fancy - It is only going to be used for work and internet use. So like a 1gb Ram and 60gb hard drive would be plenty. My budget can be as much as 300 but tbh 200-250 would be better as I will need to buy extended warranty etc... as she has a habit of breaking computers! lol

Thanks for your time

I would wait until early December.

For the simple reason if you buy it now, it will be classed as three months old at Christmas. If there is anything wrong with it, it may be harder to get a refund or replacement from the retailer. Yes, I know you have statutory rights but it can be hard to get them!

I think there will be lots of bargains to be had nearer Christmas. Start doing your homework from mid-November so you know what you are buying - then grab a bargain.

If you buy in-store haggle for a discount or freebies such as a laptop bag or mouse.
I totally agree with Ethel.

Technology works like dog years. 3 months is a long time in computing terms.

Wait as long as you possibly can, and while you won't get a laptop much cheaper than you will be able to find now, it may well have better specifications.
