I'm using a compaq presario that I've had for a few years and I'm having trouble with the power receptant on it. I wasn't sure if it was the cord or the computer at first, so I got a new cord n it worked fine for about a year and a half. But now, it's happened again and my computer refuses to accept any power. I I started shoving in the cord out of frustration to make it work again until I believed to have damaged the port. I baught a new universal charger just to make sure that's not the problem and it's actually the dc jack that's needs replacement...possibly due to a damaged pin, but it didn't work. The input on the laptop is 18.5v and my old charger's output was 19v. I had this new charger set on 19.5v, so wat I did was try and higher it to see if it'd work. The charge light wouldn't respond to anything below 24v. My question is, isit safe to leave it that way? A computer with less than 19v input runnin on a 24v output charger?.... SInce it won't work any other way... ;(
