We want to take advanatage of Govt. grants but don't know which cavity wall insulation to ask for. We have a 1936 detached house and rock wool ins. was recommended. However, the surveyor said that it 'turns to dust quickly' and that they would recommended glass wool (?).
Advice please.
Thanks

Just had ours done with polystyrene bead. they incorporate an adhesive to ensure that the bead collects together. I was surprised to see how quickly they did the job 3bed detached 3 hours.
Hi,

Different firms use different products, all are excellent. You must make up your own mind.

how do you get the grant?
what is the average cost for a detatched ?
my aunty had her detached done a few months ago for 400

A company called A&M will arrange the grant for you. Our house has 3 double bdr and a sizeable extension on the back downstairs. The cost to us is only 199 as the Govt. pays the rest.
I had a leaflet thru the door advertising insulation installed free for pensioners and those on certain benefits.

A man knocked on the door the next day, to follow up on his leaflet. Having said I was not eligible he said I could still have the job, cavity wall insulation, done for 149.

I couldn't get him in the house quick enough. Job now done, and for a low cost.
