I keep getting ''the caller withheld their number'' calls on my answer machine. How does this work ? How DO you withhold your number ?

i think you press 141 then dial the rest of the number you are calling. your operator can give you more info. or if you are on bt you can arrange to have your number withheld every time you dial

Dial 141 before the number you want to ring
There are two options:

1. You can have your number permanently witheld for all calls that you make. If you want this contact your telephone service provider.

2. You can withold yopur number for individual calls as and when you require. To do this prefix the called number with 141.
Mobile numbers can be withheld on your setup file
I don't have a landline - I use Skype and it automatically with holds my SkypeIn number

Thank you everyone. Very helpful. Ethel, not sure about skype. Have a friend who uses that and it seems to have a terrific echo which is quite off-putting. Don't know if that's normal or if it's because the friend is in Australia ! !
But thanks anyway.
