My friend is a hairdresser and does mine and always chat to her about the best way to look after it. I had some blond highlights in and as the pyroxide made my hair so dry I reverted to darker colours and it made a huge difference to my hair.
If you use a hairdryer and/or straightners etc... do you use a good heat protection spray?
I have Botanics intensive hair conditioner which is great (and usually on an offer in Boots) and VO5 hot oil treatments and sometimes go and get a good deep conditioning treatment at a hairdressers every now and again.
Another friend who worked in a hairdressers said to pull out a strand of hair, hold it taught and run a finger across it. It should feel smooth both ways. He recommended the orange elvive shampoo which made a big difference.
Loads of my hair comes out on brushes and such and especially as I have very fine hair I do wonder how I've got much left sometimes :)

Jenna.....the condition of ur hair makes no difference whether its hilites or as the process is the same but the tone is different. All coloured hair must be conditioned to replace the Ph balance.
Puddicat....dont brush your hair (brushes pull at the hair) instead comb from ends to root to unknot your hair. If u have thick hair use a wide tooth or afro-comb.
Everyone looses hair regularly, its just more noticeable when its long.
