Hatchback with 4WD

I live in a typical Cornish Harbour town, very steep and narrow road to house. My 2 Litre Mondeo Hatch doesn't make it when road wet (there is a very handy grating at the steepest point causing wheel spin). I think Fiat or Honda offered a 4WD option on a standard saloon or hatch. Any suggestions of a suitable vehicle?

Have a look at at the Subaru range. They make some great 4WD cars and are extrememly reliable.
