If you were chairperson of a charity and every year you had an event organiser put on a big fundraising sports event (including celebrities and stuff) that paid for a number of seriously ill children and their families to go on a holiday would you expect to 1 be invited as a guest and not pay for your ticket. 2 be invited but pay for your ticket. 3 not be invited?
I would certainly, out of courtesy, expect to be nvited! As it is a charity I would not object to paying for a ticket, but not to be invited would be an insult!
If it meant that maybe someone lost out or something couldn't be done because of your ticket and everything had be budgetted for then that may be a consideration.
Are you wanting to go and just see everything go on or to participate as a volunteer?
No one misses out from me going as the previous chair was paid for. However it has as much to do with the fact that as chair I get invited to a number of events and if I paid to go to all of them then between sept and Nov alone I would have to pay out over 300.
As a volunteer and on a low income this is too much to have to spend to execute my duties.
