OK, I admit, I watched it last night on Ch 5.  My question is however, all the songs (although sentimental classics) were pretty cheesey and insipid - and for my purposes - overused.

Can anyone suggest a great song for the first dance at my wedding?  Please don't say Boyzone or Blue (or any of the top 40) but something classy, recognisable and ever so slightly appropriate (not 'Smack My Bitch Up')....

Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere
I always fancied having I Can See Clearly Now by Jimmy Cliff.  Very classy, yet recognisable, and it always makes me happy.
or just the original by Lou Reed that way you lose all the hanger ons and bandwagon riders and you have a great song
...though I do love perfect day, it is a song about taking heroin so maybe not very apt at a wedding..how about Be Mine by David Gray or I love N.Y.E by Badly Drawn Boy (this is an instramental but guaranteed to bring a tear to the eyes of all your guests)...

peter paula and mary - there is love

(aka the wedding song)

We had Van Morrison - Moondance cos we didn't want anything too slow

Dan Fogelberg - "Longer"  Very gentle, sweet song with very appropriate lyrics - also not too long which is always a bonus for the first dance.  Lyrics at www.danfogelberg.com

It's one of a few songs that makes my husband and I look at eachother with 'that' look - and we'll be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary this year - so it hasn't done us any harm!

Have a lovely wedding, enjoy your first dance and enjoy the rest of your life together.

Well you all deserve 3 stars for answering.

I am a bloke for the person that asked, and yes we will choose a song that we love for the person who asked that question.  I just wanted some suggestions as my gf and I have quite different tastes (and dancing styles - she is the one who dances like Davd Brent from The Office!!)

I like the idea of finding that 'special song' that means a lot to us both, but isn't too mainstream or overly sentimental.  Thanks again y'all.

Two friends of mine had U2's Cradle to the Grave played for their first dance together.
How about Hall & Oates - a couple of tracks from the Do It For Love album -  Forever for You or the title track.  This is a great album anyway.
Hope you have a great day and a very happy marriage.

all the best for your big day....enjoy every second of it.  Maybe you could let us know what you choose? (we are nosey, well I am!!) xx
Hiya Jens!!
Finally Found by the Honeyz. If you listen to the lyrics its such a gorgeous song. I'm having a warm n fuzzy moment just thinking about it ...........

Brian Adams, Everything I do ( ill do it for you )

not wanting to diss anyone's answers...but if you have Bryan Adams, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion or Wet Wet Wet...you're surely doomed!  LOL!
the new u2 song is a good one (sometimes you cant make it on your own) or theres delta goodrems song lost without you
