I went to Longleat yesterday with my family. We had a really nice day and I would deffinitely recommend it. We would have book a hotel and done an overnight stay but hotels are not cheap in the UK.

Does anyone else find that its cheaper if you go abroad for a couple of weeks (Southern Europe) than for a few nights stay in a hotel in the UK?

I've been wanting to go up to Scotland to see the Northern Lights for the last few years but the hotels are so flippin expensive. And the weather isn't guaranteed either.
Hi tigger
Sounds like you and family had a great day yesterday.
When we got married, we went to Greece for two weeks, then toured Scotland for one week, even though we live in Scotland. It was beautiful, scenery fantastic, but weather is not guaranteed. It was very expensive for that one week, far more than two weeks abroad. On average, we were about 100 or more per night for the room only.
Nor are the Northern Lights.

True story - an American asked the tourist office when they are switched on. :)

You can get some fantastic deals for self catering in Scotland and the rest of the UK.

And don't forget motels such as TravelLodge and the big hotel chains that do rooms for 40 a night. Not fantastic, but can be a useful base for exploring.
i totally agree with you tigger, i wanted to go to Liverpool one weekend and most hotels were ranging fromm 70+ per night!!!! theres a basic one which is 30 but they get fully booked really quickly and u need to book at least couple months in advanced. but you just need to shop around on the net, sometimes they do special discounts!!

hotels in Leeds r cheaper though such as Etap they are basic and ensuit but its fine for 35 which can cater up to 3 people!!!

Hi Cruella,

Its ridiculous why everything is so expensive in the UK. I've had a holiday in Turkey for 2 weeks, all inclusive, 4 star and it cost 400. If I try to book a holiday in Scotland for a long weekend its more than that.
tigger,
If holidays were cheaper in Scotland, we would spend time here more often.
As you said, you can get a fantastic holiday abroad for a lot less. Our favourite is Greece.

Lol Ethel.

I usually try and get last minute deals here and there but you can never guarantee that there will be rooms available at these places. I tried to book a TravelLodge for Saturday just gone and the only room available was the most expensive one.

35 sound pretty good WhiteBear. I'll have to look on the Etap website.

I used to go to Crete a lot but the flights were quite pricey as the place we used to go was not a normal holiday destination.
