Surely MS Works supports saving documents Word format.

Open your file in Works then  File  > Save as  should bring up a dialog where you can choose a  Save as type in a dropdown box.  Select  Word (*.doc).

I don't think Works does support saving as Word, otherwise everyone would buy Works instead of Word.

You have three options:

1.  Save as Rich Text Format (RTF) and send it and ask them to save as Word document.  It should keep same format unless you've used complex formatting.

2.  Save it as a Works file but then rename it as ***.doc (insert doc instead of previous format).  This will force Word to open it thinking it's a Word format.

3.  Find a friend who has Word!

Thanks kempie so simple but if you are a computer dolt like me even the simple things can confuse.
Frankly, I would regard anyone who insists on Word documents as rather dodgy and not the sort of people one would wish to do business with.
Works does save as word doc.

Hello shalforette,

I had exactly same problem as you.

I spent weeks trying to get round the problem.  I tried & failed to do the above suggestions, like changing the file extension (I couldn't get my computer to take it).

I have now solved it: by buying a Word 97 CD off e-bay for about 10.

This has completely solved the problem: I found it relatively easy to copy & paste CVs from Works to Word; or even start again from scratch in Word if things got to messy.  It is now 'easy as a dream' to send off my CVs to agencies & employers!

The reason why I chose Word 97 was because my computer is 5 years old and I'm not sure whether it could handle a newer version.  Also, I think Word 97 is proabably cheaper than newer versions.

My Word 97 works perfectly; though that paper-clip man really annoys me when he pops up.
