Springing from my answer to Tiggerblue10's song Q, which holiday(s) do you dislike and why? Mine are New Year's Eve- depressing to me and Halloween- dumb and dangerous.

Any that dont have a american influence, like holidays!!!!
Bank Holiday as it is the anniversary of my dad's death.I get very weepy and maudlin every year on that day.
Oh I see, I was going to say a Club 18-30 holiday would be my idea of hell, until I read the full question.

I'd have to say Halloween, horrible horrible American (sorry EngTeach!) tradition that seems ot be getting more and more popular over here.
easter, full of bank holidays and shops being shut left right and centre
I meant to say Boxing Day not bank holiday. I think I need to read my posts before hitting the submit button.lol
Christmas because its so damn expensive and everyone buys me cheap gifts :o(
wow you're a bundle of fun Engteach...those to me are the best two holidays, New year bc you can stick whatever is bad about the year you've just had behind you and look forward to a symbolic new start and halloween bc god that's just awesome fun all round:)
I hate easter, maudling depressing self righteous load of old tosh, designed to make people feel guilty and inconvenient because it drags the country to a standstill.
Not a holiday but my birthday. My cat Snoopy was put down on that day in 2000 and I know it sounds stupid but I don't enjoy them anymore.
I can't stand Christmas and New Year. Mind you, maybe Christmas will be fun again since there's a baby in the family again :o)
I hate New Year with a passion!
It's an anti-climax, isn't it. I'm pretty sure I'll be staying in this year LOL
bank holidays

because you get all the office gimps at home on the pc even more than when theyre at work

I need to adopt NOX's position on New Year's. I always see it as the exact opposite: Another year with nothing changing: same old same old. This year I will be positive!!!
I never go out that night either . I have for a number of years gone to a friend's house, as her hubby works, and we go to an early dinner with her kids and her nieces and then watch a movie and pig out until the 12 O'clock festivities. We have our own fun, but..... That night hits me in a way birthdays don't. maybe it is the illusion that the whole world is have a fabulous night and we are in with the kids.
happy holiday

that phrase drives me up the wall lmao
New Year's Eve, because it just means the start of another year, and another year of being older!
I LOVE Halloweeen though!

Here in US Halloween gets horrible at night. The kids with no home training like to egg the cars, streets, stores and anything else they can find. I was always afraid walking home from school and was egged a few times. we were never allowed to run wild like other kids so we were targets. The little ones in costumes are cute though. I once was driving home from the school where I teach and was a stop light and some middle school kids threw an egg at my car and missed. I was so mad I jumped out out and started screaming that I could have a gun and then what would they do? I was a lunatic. Some of my students jumped off the bus to see if I was Ok and scared the crap out of the younger ones.

I also dislike our July 4th b/c I feel people are reckless with fireworks and you always see stories the next day about people being burnt or someone who lost their house due to a stray firework setting a fire. I enjoy the big pretty display done by professionals though.

I know, I know... I am a killjoy!
I hate Halloween...as a kid back in the States-I was never allowed to go round. Yet up to 100 would knock on our door.....also hate Easter...the MOST boring holiday!!
I love Easter, because not only do the kids still enjoy getting eggs and what have you...but...secret grin...so do I!!!!

I understand where folk are coming from though, when you talk about the mess that youngsters can leave on Halloween - not to mention scaring some older people and so on, but as a pagan, Halloween's one of our festivals, and it's far removed from the pranks of "Trick or Treating".
So what do you do then on halloween??

Hi Ice,
When you say pagan do you mean you don't follow any traditional religons or do you mean Pagan as in that IS your religon? Just curious. If the latter, what are some of the traditions and practices for Halloween?
