Nothing at all. When were you expecting it - the post office don't class mail as missing before 15 days.
The police will laugh at you. It probably got mislaid somewhere or postedthrough the wrong letter box. Ask whoever sent it to you to resend.
For such an important letter, I assume it was sent recorded delivery or registered post?
ive had my deceased dads mail forwarded to me and its gone missing, probably not re directed, sounds about right for the post office

well they did me a crime refernce so they must taken it seriously
they always give you a crime ref when you report anything
a passport lost in the home gets a crime number. Doesnt mean they think a crime has been committed

was the letter sent by recorded of resgistered post?
last time a letter was sent to me recorded delivery, it was in fact delivered by a neighbour who'd found it lying in the gutter a quarter of a mile away.

Anyway, you'd be better off contacting the sender and asking him to send you a copy. There's nothing much the police can do or the mail people will do.
can you prove that someone actually took it?

I suspect the answer will be no.
