we have been burgled recently cause our lodger left garden gate and door open after night out around 12ish in the morning. lots stuff from doiwstairs were missing. my lodger was drunk obivously and me and my bf both slept tightly, so we didnt hear anything,. our lovely boxer pup was sleeping in her bed in our bedroom. our bedroom was broken, so basically, there is no door in opur bedroom, but the dog didnt wake up at all!! everyone whom i told about the burgeling asked me why your dog didnt wake up?
the boxer pupo 10months old, normally can hear people coming during the day and barking if any stranger in the garden, but she is just sleeping like a pig at night and wont be able to hear anything!
(we think she is too soft, even consider to get another dog to protect her lol she is friendly to anyone)
leila-my boxer is friendly to everybody, even in the park, someother dogs come to steal her toy. she is just standing oneside staring at the dog without doing anything....cute tho
my question is -is there still achance to train her to be a guard dog?

You have answered your own question in your last sentence.

You have to train them to be a guard dog. Personally I would be very pleased to have a dog with such a lovely temperament.
So would many of the people who come on here complaining that their dog bites them or other people. Make the most of her, treat her like your pet and don't expect her to attack burglars or frighten people, or you could end up having to have her put down. Thank doG the burglars did not steal her.

cheers for reply lankeela

yeah, actually we are not really bothered she didnt wake up, we were far more pleased to see her is still in house rather then worrying other stolen stuff. told gravy, if leila disappeared, the friendship with our lodger probably will be ended!
she does have lovely temper, we just worry about her to get hurt by other people or dog really. so guess we just have to be more cardeful and keep on her.
You sure the lodger did not steal the stuff !

no, he may steal some chillis from us sometimes, but wont burgal the house,he is my bf's mate, but his careless about the house really annoying, we worry most is something like he could forget to close gate and let dog out of garden when we are not at home etc.
I think we've probably got the best of both worlds. Max is a big softy and likes to lie about as much as any dog (at the moment he's pretending to be a foot warmer) but he barks at any unusual noise at night and burglars tend to try other houses if they know there's GSD living in the house. He's never really had any special guard training it just comes more naturallly to some breeds then to others
Why not train your lodger to be more careful, the next time it could be much worse

And by that I don`t mean the dog being stolen!

lucky you paddywak!! our dog only bark during the day if any stranger near the garden, but never happened at night time once she fallen asleep. she is big softy.

yeah, tinglepie, i guess her useless side really comes from her primary ower.

Nice one Mirela, that told him!
how dare u lankeela! My thoughts are buying loads of hamsters in bulk, opening the house door and putting a hamster in. Continue this until laila justs eats them live. Shame its not fish really. But hey life is life huh?
Gravy, you are stark raving mad! but funny with it, Mirela how do you put up with him.
