when I go to start button,on the top of the menu it says E mail, underneath that it used to say Outlook Express now it says Windows Live Mail. When I click on that it comes up error and I can't get anything. I want Outlook Express back.Sorry if I'm being thick.
OK, what version of windows ?

for the time being you just need to find another way of loading outlook express, look on your desktop for an icon, or in the quick launch icons next to the start button or under the all programs on your start menu

Question Author
OK I'm thick. there is an entry lower down the menu that says Outlook Express I've clicked on that and can access my e mails. But it still says Windows Live Mail under the e mail banner and I would like to get rid of it so would still appreciate your help.

I have windows XL
start > control panel select internet options then click on the programs tap at the top and in the section that says Email select outlook express from the drop down list... then click on OK

Question Author
tried that ...didn't change it. Did it again and restarted computer and still Windows live mail remains
It's working for me, I'm swapping my email link about quite easily.

try it again

Click on start, select control panel. in there double click internet options. click on programs on the line of tabs at the top and you should see it says windows live next to email. click on the arrow and select outlook express and then click apply.

Then click on the start menu and it really should show outlook express.

if not any other takers??

No still not changing Can i delete Windows Live Mail?
If it is just the start menu that has the wrong icon on then try this:

Click start > right click on Windows Live and chose 'unpin from start menu'.

Then start > programs and find outlok express. Right click on it and chose 'Pin to start menu'.
Open up Internet Explorer

On the Tools menu select Internet Options. The Internet Options window is displayed.

Select the Programs tab.

In the second field down it says E:mail. In the box it will probably say "Windows Live Mail".

Select the small arrow to the right of the E:Mail field.

A small menu drops down showing two options: Outlook Express and Windows Live Mail.

Select Outlook Express and press OK to save your changes.

That should set Outlook Express as you default mail editor.
