My father had a lot of debt and I am sure he still has but he divorced my mother almost 10 years ago and disappeared. I heard he has remarried and has a child. I am now married. Is there anyway that the government will come after me or my mother to collect his debt?
Thank you :)

The government does not chase debt, with the exception of Income Tax or VAT (Inland Revenue).

You can never be responsible for your father's debt, unless you were a joint applicant.

Your mother can only be liable if she were a joint applicant or if the loan were secured on the property that they both jointly own.
