Are you full-time or part-time Pasta?
Question Author
Full-time tigger...I am the do-all cook in charge of the kitchen.
I would take it up with my employer.

Very firmly.

I intend to......but I know he will not do anything. Others have walked out over similar.
Perhaps threaten to, and come back part time on the higher pay rate.
I would have said the same Panic but there is the possibility that Pasta's employer would not re-employ her.
The key word here is UP TO 75p more... up to.. that's a way of getting prospective candidates interested, but be reasured he probably won't give them anything over what you earn.. and there's no way of finding out until he employs someone, so then if he has, reason to seek advice.

lol-wish I could-but I need full-time....

My predecessor-male-made more than me.......
May noy be illegal, but certainly is not fair.....and the part-timer would not have the same responsibilities as me
pasta I would definately say something. 75p doesnt sound like much but when you look at it in a different perspective, lets assume yu udo approx 36hrs per week

.75p x 36 hrs = 27/wk

27 x 52 weeks = 1404

1404 / 12mths = 117 extra/mth before tax
I wonder if the Citizens Advice or ACAS could advise you on the legality of your employers antics.

If they employ another male on a higher rate, then I would definitely think you would have a case.

It sounds to me as though he knows you won't leave and is taking advantage.

Thanks MATRIX.....i did the sums already....makes me doubly angry. This is in a residential care home-we have been thru 5 managers in 9 months-says something, doesn't it? Owner will ignore ALL recomendations from them....including fair pay for all employees.
Look for another job ...as good cooks
are in short supply ..my bro is a chef /
manager and is always being head hunted
as they know he is realiable and does a
good job ...good luck ..
Question Author
He also will employ new support workers at a higher rate than those ALREADY on staff...
