I have just lost my cat who was nearly 16 years old. we had him from 6 weeks old. the vet said that he had a thrombolism, something to do with the heart.

this happened on Tuesday when i got in from work. i am completely devastated and cant stop crying. i keep seeing him and feeling him.

i dont really know what to do next. do you ever really get over this feeling of loss. other peoples experiences would be really helpful please,

I'm so sorry for your loss Afcjan.

I lost my cat Snoopy in 2000 after 15 years. I had him from about 8 weeks old. I had to have him put down as he had kidney failure and I was devastated. He was put down on my birthday as well which makes all my birthdays really hard now.

Took me a while before I could get back to normal but now I have Tigger and Blue and they are my little babies although I will always have a place for Snoopy in my heart.

So sorry to hear of your loss.
Its like loosing a friend and you are bound to grieve. In time you will be able to remember him and his little ways with a smile. It always sounds trite to say time heals, but it will get better.
Its just so sad that we are only lent them for so few years, but you were lucky, you had 16years of his company and love.
Take care.
Awh, afcjan.
I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
He was part of your family and it takes a while to get over the loss of your pet.
Free of pain now.
Think of all the pleasure he gave you all those years. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I am sorry that your friend has died, you have been together for a long time and you ae bound to miss him very much.

16 Years is a good age and I am sure that he was loved and cared for very much.

I don't think you ever get over a death of a close loved one - but over time the pain and loneliness is less severe.

Thinking of you at this hard time.
Hello afcjan. Most of the people on here have lost a beloved pet and know only too well what you are feeling. You were together for a long time and you will feel tearful and sad for a while. You will never forget Tinker but the raw feeling will pass and in timeyou will start to remember the good times. Take comfort from the fact that he was a loved pet who had a long and happy life with you.
Thinking of you

Thank you everybody who has been kind enough to answer me. today has been difficult being at home, going shopping and walking down the cat food aisle. im afraid i broke down crying just too many memories.

i have now put some photos of him in my living room and he is probably here with me now as im typing this. please can i keep in touch with you all because you have all helped me so much.

love to you all xxxx
I lost my beautiful Yasmin in February afc,and,2 other family pets over the years. The shock and grief is really all consuming at times.Like you found out today,it's the little things that can get to you unexpectedly. I found little paw prints on furniture etc.after he died, and I can't bring myself to clean them off still. You'll be very easily tearful for a while, but, you slowly find you can cope better. It def does help to talk about them and remember all their funny wee ways.Don't expect too much of yourself too soon,we all need however much time it takes x
Please do afcjan. The folks on here are generally really nice though recently we have had the occasional idiot posting in this section, usually a newbie whose sole purpose is to wind others up.
Take care J xx
