How much smaller? you can get ready made doors in B&Q 27 inches
I don't know if this will help you but my mum and dad had a similar problem.

They have a pantry in the litchen which needed a new door but it was't a standard size. They wanted louvre doors but the gap wouldn't take 2 doors the same size. In the end they were advised by a joiner to get 2 =standard doors, one slightly bigger than the other. As an example (I can't remember the real measurements), say the gap was 47 ins and you can't get doors of 23 1/2 inch widths. They got one of 23 ins and one of 24 ins.

They look fine and you really cant tell that one door is an inch wider than the other.
