Is anyone else spooked by the fact that the Coral's 'Dreaming of You' has popped straight into their all-time top 10 songs - knocking such class as Nirvana and Radiohead (Heartshaped box, lithium, electioneering and anyone can play guitar) out of their positions ? Cos it has mine.......

well.... in true male trainspotter style it can change daily if not more frequently but today......top 10 bands are Radiohead, Green Day, Therapy ?, Cake, Dandy Warhols, Nirvana, Portishead, Cooper Temple Clause, George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers, Red Hot Chili Peppers. Songs top ten is more adventurous becos less good bands (good as in my subjective assessment - don't get upset) can get inspired - like the Coral

I agree about the 'historical perspective' thing - let's not get carried away here BUT it's good to see AB users have good taste. The first thing I saw or heard of The Coral was on TOTP playing 'Goodbye' - I missed the presenters intro and thus didn't know who it was but was blown away by the song and the band's performance (even though they were probably miming).
What spooks me is that Dreaming Of You although a fine tune seems to be a combination of 80% Showaddywaddy and 20% Supergrass (think 'Alright' for the latter).
If you like the Coral then check out the previous Liverpool reto band The Stairs who's Weed Bus EP & only album Mexican R&B were both recorded in mono in the early 1990's.
kahunabean, you've done me a real favour. by listing your favourite bands I now realise I will probably *hate* The Coral even though I was expecting to like them and had planned to buy the CD later today!

Mikewith. Sorry m8. I read once that classical music fans were just as picky as pop music fans - i.e. Wagner fans *hate* Ravel and vice versa. I know next to nothing about classical music - can anyone confirm that within the realm of classical there are just as many subjective opionions as pop ?
I recommend that anyone who likes The Coral should check out Ween - anything off The Mollusk album to start with. The Coral are like Ween lite.
