my cat has been fighting (again), he came home a few days ago with a cat claw stuck in his head just by his ear which I removed for him but it then got infected and today burst open. Is there anything I can use to clean it, eg. salt water or diluted TCP? or is it best to leave it?

Obviously I'll take him to see the vet if it gets any worse but I have a newborn baby so if I can save myself 30+ quid, and a trip in the car with both of them sqwaking that'd be great!!! LOL

TIA

cat spit is diinfectant. Maybe sit in front of it for a lengthy amount of time spitting on your own head and hopefully it will copy what you are doing.

hope this helps
I use diluted TCP with warm water, about 1 part TCP to 4 parts water. Wash with warm saline solution first to get all the muck out then bathe with the TCP solution. Savlon is just as good but if you already have TCP then great, obviously if it's not cleared up by the beginning of next week then he needs to see a vet, also if he becomes lethargic or isn't eating/drinking take him, but I have done this so many times I have lost count and never needed to go to the vets.
It may turn into an abscess in which case you would definitely need to go to the vets for antibiotics, but apart from bathing with salt water, you could use some anti biotic powder available from most pet shops.

I think it was a small absess which has now burst coz there is a hole in his head about the size of a 5p! Thanks for your replies, as soon as I can pin him down I'll clean him up and see how bad it is!
bathe it with salt water several times a day and try and squeeze it to see if there is any more pus to come out if you are lucky it will heal on its own now that it has burst if not sorry but its a trip to the vets
