These gods were written about as myths and legends. How do they differ from the singular God that is worshipped today?

Silly question I know, but I love Greek mythology

Possibly the main broad difference between those days and now is that we have been only exposed to monotheistic religions for quite some time - Christianity, Judaeism and Islam. The Romano-Greek outlook was more akin to present-day Japanese Shinto in that spiritual entities could exist in a multiplicity of forms and could represent simple and complex concepts at the same time.

Exploring this question fully would be a fantastic dissertation - but a very long post........
you have to imagine gods seen as being behind everything people didn't understand - the wind, the sea, love... As well as the big gods there were ancient spirits of the forest and fields, plus household spirits a bit like the oriental ancestral spirits. They really didn't go for the one-big-creator idea which has been prevalent in much of the world for the past thousand years and more.
I'm with Steve they don't really well at least in theory but not in practice.
The more Gods and Goddesses the less hatred for other religions.
Religion causes confusion amongst men that is why there are so much conflicts around the world.

'My God can whoop your God' thus the argument goes on and on.
