No hot or cold water upsatirs

Have just had an SOS phone call from my daughter who has no water upstairs. Nothing from hot or cold taps and the shower won't work. She tells me that the loo fills up but thats it.
Any plumbers or DIY experts around today to help on this one!?

Water doesn't just stop running..........it's against the laws of physics LOL
Meanwhile.......what sort of hot water system is it........immersion cylinder?..............combi boiler?........unvented?

any chance the header tank in the loft not filling ? or that its what's supplying the toilet but the mains isn't filling it back up or flowing at all?

Many thanks for your rsponse.I'm not sure what sort of boiler they have. I have askeed and am waiting to hear!
A friend seems to think that it may be an airlock so I have talked my daughter through the process of firstly finding the stop **** and turning it off along with the boiler. Then running the taps, then turning the stop **** and boiler back on and see what happens. What do you think?

sounds a reasonable approach to try out.hope it sorts the proble.Can see this might be affecting the boiler,but doubtfull an airlock, with mains pressure would block the cold feed to the taps/shwer(if the shower is an electric one.
Could the stopcock washer have come adrift and be blocking things?
