I have a Packard Bell Diamond 1200 Plus scanner. Sometimes after a scan when i try and do another one it says the scanner is not connected when it is. Also for a photo, what resolution should i choose, as im getting part of the black background from the inside of the lid, and the files that it scans are massive (around 10Mb!)

The resolution you choose has nothing to do with getting part of the black background.

To exclude the background, you need to use the mouse to select the part of the image youre interested in.

You can choose whatever resolution you like, the lower the resolution the lower the quality and the smaller the file size. If youre going to send it by email or put it on a website, you should choose a low resolution.

Depending on the scanner software theres usually also an option to select the image type, e.g. best quality colour photo, black and white picture, text, and file type (e.g. jpeg, bmp). These also affect the file size.
