If you are wanting to "backup" your all important commercial DVD's, but are having problems circumnavigating the copy-protection, then try DVD-Shrink - available here;

http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html

It's freeware, very easy to use and the program itself is tiny.

It even allows you to remove extras, menus and legal warnings so that your disc can be burnt to a recordable DVD.
Also, I just re-read the above question, you will need seperate burning software. I bought Nero and it works perfectly with DVD-Shrink. According to the website, DVD-shrink works with
the Demo version of Nero.

DVD Shrink was able to "rip" a DVD in under a minute. It takes longer to burn, but then I set my DVD to burn at low speeds.

If you are copying DVDs then CloneDVD is the best as it circumvents all copy protection and where necessary compresses all that you want copying onto a single disk, all in one programme unlike DVD-Shrink.

For general burning I use Ashampoo as Nero6 Ultra has known compatability problems with SP2
