how did tesco get its' name

the retailers Tesco, are named after the two founders, what are their names please?

Jack Cohen founded Tesco. The first store was opened in Burnt Oak, Edgeware, North London in 1929. The name TESCO comes from T. E. Stockwell who was a partner in a firm of tea suppliers and the CO comes from Jack Cohen's surname. Hope this helps.

I was told the name came from "Ten acres and Stirchley Co-operative Society". There was a big store there in the 1950's. (In fact I sold a motorcycle to a guy who went there and tried to commit an armed robbery. But that is totally irrelavent.) First I knew was seeing the bike on Shaw Taylor's Police 5 prog. Ah those were the days!!!!

My friend (an ex commander of the MET) told me Jack Cohen named the store after his wife whose name was Tessa. In other words TES-CO. seems to conclude the case!!!!
