What does it involve?

Would seeing a psychiatrist be more or less beneficial than seeing a 'spiritual healer'?

Thanks in advance for any input.

I'm guessing here, so please forgive me if I'm barking up the wrong tree, but would you be referring to mediums - that type of 'spiritual healer'? From personal experience I would urge you to give these type of people a very wide berth.

If you feel that talking about problems would be beneficial, then I truly would suggest that you speak to your GP first, then he or she will forward you to the correct channels within the National Health. There are some brilliant psychologists there  - and they are free.

It would depend on your particular requirement, although I would hazard a guess that a psychiatrist or psychologist would normally be recognised within their field and have appropriate training, experience and qualifications, to deal with most cases.  I doubt you could say the same about spritual healers who are usually self-declared.
I  decided to try spiritual counselling after months of talking to a psycologist failed miserably. The spiritual councellor I had was absolutely amazing, she listened with heartfelt interest, never once looked at her watch and also gave me spiritual healing, all for the price of a cuppa. Proffesionals Medicals go too much by the book and theory which is'nt much use as we're all different and did'nt all come off a conveyor belt. Im really glad I did'nt give my SP councellour "A wide berth" Pip Pip.

I was referring to mediums, etc. FINA.

'm glad you were helped, but I still stand by what I say as the psychologist  I had turned my life around, whereas the 'spiritist' dabblings almost sent me over the edge.

We're all guessing here anyway as we haven't been given anything to go on so I urge you again Pip-pip please go to your GP for proper guidance.

spiritual healers at the spiritualist church are trained for 2 years .they take exams they are assessed and tested,,and are not allowed to heal alone until they reach the required standard,,they also have insurance from the snu..i have a friend that is working as a counsellor she charges 25 an hour,,she is trained but is so screwed up herself that their is no way i would reccomend anyone go to her,,she works for the local authority and only does it for the money...if i had the choice i would rather go to a spiritual healer on the understanding they have the required qualifications and not just joe bloggs out for the money..seing a psychiatrist is totally different from spiritual healing a psychiatrist deals with the mind and emotions and people in states of trauma..a spiritual healer would reccomend you seek medical help if you were in need of it ,,they are not registered doctors they are just their to help the condition also it is breaking their code of conduct if they dont urge someone to seek proffesional help..and they could get their snu membership with drawn if complaints are made against them or their conduct of not abiding by rules and regulations..if you have been to a registered healer and are not satisfied then you should complain..hope this is of help..
What about seeing a counsellor?
We are professionally trained but not as regimented as Psychologists/Psychiatrists.
