Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeese someone, make it stop!!
Vic you are missing the point

4 years no contact

What miraculous thing is going to happen which will make them chase it up?
No, I am not a candidate for Pope (specially as I am not Catholic), but I do see a lot of poverty and do understand where tax money goes.

What do you think would happen to this country if everyone was as selfish as you?
But you are not getting the point, are you?

There HAS been contact! They HAVE tried to contact you!

Just because you didn't SEE the letters doesn't make them disappear!
Pardon me for jumping in, and I'm a bit slow as well, but it seems to me that your creditors have indeed tried to contact you, and how on earth can you expect them to contact you if they don't know where you are?

Fraud leaps to mind.
The 'miraculous thing' is that every six months, people will go through old files of people owing money and type there names into a computer search database. (this is what happened at my old company which was rather small (less than 20 employees) - bigger companies may automate this process)

Every year, this will look at things like previous credit searches and voters role and flag up people with similar names, dates of births etc.

Alternatively, they may sell the debt to a debt recovery company who will do the same process.

When (or if) you do register (a legal requirement) or if you even apply for a mobile phone, that data is captured and shared amongst credit companies.

As soon as that happens, they will make contact with you.

As I said, if you don't apply for credit, this won't happen - but bear in mind that even car insurance companies will sometimes credit search you if you are paying monthly.
Lol it isnt fraud because the money wasnt obtained by deception.

Im so glad you all have such faith in the credit card companies that after 4 years their alarm clock will go off and they will wake up.

I have no HP
Own a car paid for cash
Have a pay as you go phone
Not on electoral register

Yes I will still be quaking in my boots in 4 years time in case someone comes after me.

Not.

I had a debt agency send me a letter from a bill I owe ???? from 2005 yet have never ever had a chase letter from the company.
I strongly doubt Bounty's assertion that Rev's 40k debt is responsible for pushing this country into financial recession.
What's more likely to be the cause of it is people spending all afternoon sl@gging him off instead of keeping the wheels of industry turning.
And before you all jump down my throat; *Week off*

And also, what's wrong with being a DJ, please?
What OEV says makes sense, computers will work repetitively and tirelessly, and it sounds highly likely that regular database searches are carried out for unpaid debts. I rather hope so anyway. You'll have to be lucky indeed to keep of any form of shared database for the - rest of your life ?
Cheries Im a big boy lol

Thanks for the words and check that email list of contacts of yours...lol
No need to brag Rev.
The point I make still stands; I strongly suspect that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. I'm sure some of you on here have been less than perfect in the past.
Not to the tune of 40,000 cheries.

I imagine Rev's life must have a constant underlying tension.

Rev, I'm more concerned that this is going to come and bite you on the ass big time more than anything, I was thiknin about this thread on my way home and you saying they won't come after you after X amount of time.

Just last month my ex and I had a heated phonecall because a court summons had been delivered. His wife has the same first initial as me (and obviously the same last name since she's married to him), so she accepted the letter. She didn't know what it was about and they both turned to me.

I know fine that I am not owe anyone money I'm not already paying back (mortgage and car loan) so I called the Company to try and sort it out. I was told that it was for the grand total of 500 that I was owe on an Argos card taken out in 2004!

I've never owned a store card in my puff and I wasn't living at that address 4 years ago either. That's not the point though, the point is that 4 years later, they're trying to collect a debt that is a drop in the ocean compared to your 40k.
Sometimes I wish I wasn't brought up so well, accepting my responsibilities, having a conscience and all that.

I have a ludicrous mortgage, even more ludicrous loans / credit card debts etc. Food prices and fuel costs don't help much but ultimately my other half and I got ourselves into this situation, and it's our responsibility to deal with it. And so we do - work a little harder, cut back here & there. Consolidate if necessary, but ensure we always pay what we owe.

I can't see it being a great life having to live below the radar, to avoid detection by your creditors. And lost in all this is your co-conspirator - your own mother - who is also caught up in this! Your mother is lying for you, and she is part of this - surely that's fraudulent?

It would be much better for you to accept your debt, go to the CCCS or Citizens Advice, arrange a repayment schedule, even if it's only 5 a week - and make the effort to pay it off. That way you no longer have to hide and drag your mother down with you. Ultimately this will come back and bite you in the ass, why would you want the hassle of that in years to come?
