Last week, I woke up one morning and couldn't hear anything in my right ear. The night before I had had a bath and had got some water in my ear but no more than usual. I have used Earex a few times in case it was wax - it seems to have got a little better but not sure if that is because of the Earex. I now also have a ringing in my ear too.

Does anyone know what this is?

You need urgent appt to see your GP. it could be someting quite simple, but sudden onset of one sided deafness may indicate inner ear or nerve problem which would need urgent investigation. No need to panic though as the latter is an outsider compared to other minor problems.
It's probably just wax. I get a build up in my left ear, probably because I always lay on my right side in bed and it doesn't get chance to drain out. I went really deaf in my left ear about a year ago and ended up feeling quite disorientated. I had it 'jet washed' by a nurse and the most disgusting lump of brown wax came out. My kids thought it was hilarious. If you've ever seen Shrek he pulls a lump of wax out of his ear and lights it like a candle! My hearing was fine after that (although being deaf has it's advantages around kids).
my partner woke up deaf last march, his hearing has never retuned, after months and months of tests, scans, the specialist came to the conclusion that he.d had a bad viral infection in his middle ear! he.s got labrynthitus, they told him if his hearing doesnt return within 2 yrs then it wont at all! his balance was really affected but that has totally cleared. he has a constant buzzing in his ear which sounds a bit like wasps! The good news is that it doesn.t bother him a great deal now. hopefully yours is just a build up of wax, you could also try taking sudafed or may beconaze. READ LABEL FIRST THOUGH!!
My GP recommended warm olive oil at nightime in the ear, works a treat and cheaper than Earex.
the noise you hear in your head is possibly Tinnitus often caused after listening to music played loudly. It's a bit like hearing the blood rushing round your body. Try not to listen for it as focusing on such sounds makes them more pronounced.

Turn on the radio or play some music, anything to distract concentration on the tinnitus.

I hear it more at night, when all is quiet, only 'cause of few distractions......tv so boring!
