Thanks Joanne.

I have Norton Anti-virus. It showed up on the scan but was unable to delete it. It suggests to writie down path and delete manaully.

I want to know if this is safe? It is in the Programs folder. Will XP allow me to delete the folder? Will it affect my computer?

Will the Adware software delete the program for me automatically?

Thanks

Heres another link to something that may help

You could also check the symantec site for manual removal instructions

Regarding the deletion of programme file folders, I have done this with no problem, however the registry would be the main problem and you need this fixed to avoid it returning.

Ive had a few spyware problems previously ,if you can be certain when the programme got into your system, an option may be to do a "system restore" to a point before that date , you will hopwever lose anything else installed since that date.

Alunr:: Thanks.

I had thought of the 'restore' option. Maybe this is the safest way to do it? It has only infested itself in the last week or so.

No problem - up until a couple of weeks ago I was plagued by Spyware, all sorts of hijacks/pop ups etc.despite having all security possible ? I figured there would be Nothing to lose by doing a restore, if it didnt solve it, cancel the restore and bring it back to present date and then manually remove the offending items.

Hope it works OK for you,doesnt sound too bad to get rid of.

Hi Arun. Tried to restore first. But that was unsuccessful, so tried another date but still unsuccessful. So downloaded the Adware software and that picked it up and was able to delete it. But it also showed up many others whihc i was unaware of ! Will have to go through carefully and delete them too.

Thanks for yor help.

Ad-aware, as mentioned above, should cure this problem. Another excellent, and free, program is Spybot ( http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html ). Between the two of them (yes, they will run on the same system without interfering with each other) they'll get rid of it and anything else that's on your system too. Don't worry about making selections yourself. I've been running these programs now for ages. Just blast everything they find, I've never had a problem with either of these programs.

An advantage to Spybot is that it can also immunise your system against a considerable number of this type of "pest" software.

Another piece of software even better to prevent against re-infection is SpywareBlaster from http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/ , also free.

Just remember to update manually at regular intervals, about every 10 - 15 days should do.
