I have a peugeot 306 (2000) and it has been making a gurgling sound, has lost power several times and has an oil leak. My local garage has said it might be the head gasket but will cost about 400 to replace.

As I can't afford this I asked if it needed to be done immediately or is this something that could wait - they said I could just put up with the leak and leave it until the oil was dripping more. After reading other comments and postings, I'm worried that I may be causing more damage and should be replaced.

Was the garage advice wrong? Is their quote correct?
Any help appreciated please.

Hi, the longer you leave this the more damage you will do, the head is alloy & you have every chnce of warping the head, you should be able to get the head gasket done for about 200, Ring around.
