Question about The Ramones.

I am too young to remember Punk in its prime and too old to be a retro proto-punk nowadays.
I have in my possession for the first time "End of the Century" by The Ramones. I must say the album certainly rocks but am aware that the Phil Spectre influence certainly mellowed the sound.
Can anybody therefore recommend my next move in to The Ramones. I really do not like out and out punk, it's basically just a noise that plays havoc with my ear drums.

Hi Abdulmajid - You might want to check out some Clash, New York Dolls or even The Velvet Underground if you like this kind of punk (Velvet Underground was a bit earlier though). New York Dolls (by NYD) is a fine album, and you can pick it up for a few quid these days. London Calling, or even Essential Clash vol1 are both worth a listen/buy. I still haven't heard anything that comes close to the Sex Pistols track 'Bodies'. A loud bloody to the point song, but quite melodic for punk. The album you'll find it on 'Never Mind The ********', is possibly the most popular punk album, but gets a rough ride from some. However, it is a masterpiece, a jem, and the first 4 tracks are utterly mind blowing.
Cheers for that Dr Strange. Regarding VU, absolute love them and most of Lou Reeds solo outings.
I should really get in to The Clash. I only really know London Calling at that is a top song.
Know little about New York Dolls apart from being introduced by Mozza a few years back.
I have never heard Never Mind the B)llocks. As a music fan I am ashamed of this, and due to your knowledgable recommendation, I may just buy it!!

One of the advantages of getting old is I saw The Ramones 28 times in concert.
They were my 2nd favourite group behind The Stranglers,who I follow now(The new tour starts in October).
The best Ramones album is "Its Alive" recorded at the Rainbow,London on New Years Eve 1977.
I still pogo around the room to it now!

It is very sanitised Ramones!
According to a book the late Dee Dee Ramone wrote the only Ramone to appear on the album was the singer Joey.
Phil Spector drove the other band members so mad with his perfectionism they just left the recording studio and went home!
The album was released without their knowledge!
