Have they got a website you can have a look on for the types of things they sell, brands, specialties and such?

Are they independant or part of a chain or franchise?

You could ask them what jewelery ranges they have, some have ranges that are quite exclusive i.e. clogau gold, aimed at children, celtic etc...

You could ask how much stock they have and how often do things need to be ordered in etc...?

Good to ask if there are any opportunities for overtime! They like that!

I'll keep thinking!

P.S I've posted on both!
If it's clerical you could ask about whether there are commission or bonus schemes and such if you will be involved in wages admin, ask about how many people work there and what kind of shifts.
You could ask about staff discounts on jewellery.

Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to reply everyone. There's some very useful info here - thanks Abers, I knew you'd shine for me!!!
It's an independent store, I've been on their website which has been useful too.
There is a bonus scheme where it is a team effort & everyone benefits from it.
Thanks again & anymore tips welcome
find out exactly what the job envolves - do you need to go on any training courses etc, how much is computerised, whether you can go on ab during the day................. ;-)

Hi fluff <<<<<hugs>>>>>
Thanks sweetie
I'm gonna get withdrawal symptoms if I can't go on AB lol
I was interviewing for staff earlier this week.

Main tips are to be smart and friendly (the kind of person they'd like to work with), not overly formal so you come across a bit strange (unless it's that kind of place). If the staff dress in a certain way, use that for guidance.

Don't just give short answers but don't ramble, if the conversation goes a bit quiet then ask a sensible question.

Be early and sit and smile and look interested.

If you're nervous or likely to fidget then take a copy of your CV in a smart folder and hold it on your lap.

When asked about skills give examples of when you've used them to good effect without coming across arrogant.

It's likely you have the kind of skills and experience they need hence why they called you to interview, they will also be looking for someone who's nice to work around and fits in with the firm (check out the kind of people that work there, how they dress etc...) and their customers.

Might sounds like a strange final point but wear nice "jewellery" which is not a million miles from what they sell eg if it's a upmarket pricey place, wear a smart watch, cufflinks etc...

Be interested about the job, especially as it's an independant place. Ask about the kind of customers they have, what the job entails, who you would be working and under.

A smile is a good way to react without going over the top to show it's something you would be happy doing.
Ps you could show your interest by printing out the main bit of the website and putting it at the top of a see through folder. You could also briefly mention you've looked at the website to find out more about the company - a common question is what you know about the place.

Have some questions ready but be flexible (don't read them off a list and make sure you don't duplicate what's already been talked about and don't have too many).

A good final question is where you go from the interview, are they doing second interviews, will they call you either way.

End the interview on a positive note. Thank them for seeing you and that you look forward to hearing from them.

Good luck :)
