Back to the 60's now. When I first heard the Paper Back Writer by the beatles I thought it was BARE BACK RIDER.

Oh my, there's hundreds of these, which are properly called "Mondegreens": http://www.mentalfloss.com/archives/archive2003-05-23.htm

Some examples that come to mind are "There's a bathroom on the right" instead of "there's a bad moon on the rise" by Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Also the classic "'Scuse me, while I kiss this guy", instead of "'Scuse me while I kiss the sky" by Jimi Hendrix.

There are a number of 'misheard' lyrics on the web, and a feature about them in the Archive - which as I glance to my right, doesn't seem to be accessible! Contact the Ed. to see if it's retrievable.
Meatloaf's Bat Out Of Hell line: On a silver black phantom bike -  I prefer: 'I'm a Cilla Black fan on bike!

WHAM - Club Tropicana - 'whoaa their p*ssing in the sea' instead of 'all that's missing is the sea'.

Couldn't understand how they got away with until someone pointed out the correct lyrics. Dur.

spare him his life from those pork sausages (Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen)

I come to you in a submarine (How deep is your love - Bee Gees)

Eric Pridz -call on me...."im saving for a new settee"  or should be "im the same boy i use to be"
First time I heard Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Relax, I thought the "hit me with those laser beams" line was "hit me with that plate of beans".

Many years ago on Radio 1, Bruno Brookes (remember him?) used to have a misheard lyrics spot on his show. The one that always sticks in my mind is Gary Shearston's 1970s version of the old classic I Get A Kick Out Of You. Bruno Brookes mentioned that at the end it sounds like he sings "crispy onion rings and chips". He then played the end several times to prove it. Thing is, not only did it sound like that, but to this day I have no idea what the real lyrics could possibly have been!! I don't think they're in any other version of the song.

I remember the bruno brooks thing too.

The only one I remember was someone going into a record shop asking for 2 records called

Alex the seal

and

Nelson The Panda

Which were

Our lips are sealed

and

Nelson Mandela
