a neighbour slid on the ice outside my house, and ploughed his car into my car. damage to wheel arch etc. he has admitted liability, I have given him my details, but we have not heard anything from his insurance company yet. Are they obliged to contact us? Anyone got a similar experience? If so, how long does it tend to take to get sorted? Do i need to get my insurance company involved? Plus, I have another dent in the back, caused by something different. Do you think i could blag it and claim it was also caused by this neighbour?

Thanks in advance

It is up to YOU to make a claim, the other soide are not going to be nice and offer it to you.

If the other driver gave you his insurance details spare no time in contacting the company, if the driver only gave you their name and address, then have a quotation for the damage prepared and send it to them, requesting payment by return. If you only have the vehicle registered mark then you will have to involve either your insurance company or the police.

If you gave the Third Party your details but did not get anything from them and you do not have the VRM then you do not have much hope of compensation for the damage.

.

Regarding your additional point regarding the damage not caused by this Third Party, to claim falsely that this was caused at the same time is not only fraudulent, but may prejudice the real claim if it is discovered that the damage predated the accident. As this person is a neighbour, there is a chance that they took a photo during the summer (kids in garden, relatives arriving etc.) that may include a view of your car prior to the accident.

I would advise against claiming fraudulently.
