why is it that in a first person game, walking around in a maze is incrediably disorientating. yet in real life, you can tell when youve turned left or right, facing north or south. Why is this? Is this the thing they call our inner compass? if so...what is an inner compass? what makes it? are you born with it? is it learned? is it instinctive?

I drive for a living.

As yet I haven't entered into the sat nav age.

I can navigate very well, using maps.

However I realised some time ago that I do not have an internal compass. If a road takes a few sweeping curves then after a whileI am unable to say with any accuracy which direction I am going.
