I have lived in my property for 25 years, when we moved in there was a confer hedge at the bottom of the garden.
New neighbour moved in last year, and this week has taken out the hedge and put in a fence, which I is not the real prolbem. The thing is he has put the fence on my side of the boundary, and so taken a little of my garden away. Am I within my rights to ask him to move it back to the boundary line

yes but you may need to convince him where your boundary line is.

i realise now I should have taken photographs or something to show how much he has taken
But he has taken about a foot which may seem petty, but my opinion is that foot would have left me room to put a hedge back in on my side
but he has brought fence right up to patio i have at bottom of my garden leaving me no room to plant something to hide this hideoust fence
Yes, ask him. I had the same done to me in my last house but it was more about 3". But it is cheeky! The worst thing is they had a bigger garden than mine. My husband told me not to make a fuss about 3" but it makes my blood boil.

We have moved house and my new neighbour is putting up a wall. He is just getting the ground ready at the moment but I am watching him.
You really need to check your deeds, normally the boundary line is the centre of the hedge, also there is a ruling that hedges must not be interfered with especially in the bird nesting season, there is a fine regarding this, call your local council environmental department, do not let people do as they like, but always be civil and when you speak to them always have someone as a witness or even record the conversation, take care and good luck.

I have so far not done anything about this, as my husband has also said as jenga's did, not to make a fuss.
But I cant go out on he garden without getting annoyed about it, I am the sort of person who would have made sure I put the fence in the correct place so as not to upset anyone. The other way round and I bet he would have been round here already
check your deeds, if the fence is on your boundary, legally your neighbour has to either move it or sign the fence over to you. check first, if you have legal cover wih you insurance company, just in case things get nasty.
