When I was 14 we did McBeth at school we all loved it

Then we had to do Mayor of Casterbridge - dreary tedious drivel

The teacher gave up and we did Julius Ceaser instead.

Moral of the story? Teenage boys prefer tales of death violence and vengence to Yokels even if the language is harder.
I studied Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Merchant of Venice, Henry V, King Lear, and Much Ado about Nothing.

My favourites were Henry V (all about battles and warfare) and Much Ado about Nothing (one of his comedies). Not sure what that says about me!
I too did Henry V and then Richard 111 and I rememder being surprised by how much I enjoyed them both. The novels we read were Two from Dickens, Great Expectations (hated it) and Tale of Two Cities ( still one of my all time favorites)
Ive read all of Shakespeares plays ... except for two which I found so boring that I didnt read them all the way through ... (Antony & Cleopatra and Troilus & Cressida).

The ones I like best are:-
Hamlet
Macbeth
The Tempest
Twelfth Night

... and Titus Andronicus, which is a lesser-known one but just about every thing unpleasant you could think of happens in this play!
