Tennessee - the Volunteer State -had the most number of actions.

And I'm a Brit!

With all due respect, Mr. Pedant, according to this website http://www2.cr.nps.gov/abpp/battles/bystate.htm Virginia had the most battles with 123 vs. 38 for second place Tennessee.

Yeah, I kinda thought it was unlikely, and it was on a civil war web site about tennessee war sites.

But as a Brit I thought those damned Confederates should know what they are talking about.

Thanks.....as.ever

o while you are at it, ezapf,

I always thought that Texas was the only sovereign state to accede to the Union - erm around 1847, but then I was knocking around a few Californian sites and tthey implied that California was another....any ideas?

Hmm. I also thought Texas was the only one. I can't find any evidence to suggest otherwise.

I can think of only two possibilities: 1. Indian tribes retain sovereign government status in the US even today or 2. Perhaps you glanced across something about sovereign lands in California which are wetlands that are protected from any non-public use.
