gaps between adverts...

in the 70s i remember that between every advert there was a gap of about 1 second where you could see a white box on a black screen moving diagonally across , then the next advert came on.

did this really happen or was i seeing things?

There is a box in the top corner that does it - has done for years I havent noticed this recently but I do remember it being there just before a program is going to an advert.

no it wasnt that , the box in the top corner was to warn the engineers that the ad break was going to start in 30 secs. the thing i'm talking about was in between each advert and lasted about a second.
I remember that, certainly an 80's thing. See? It's not just you!
It wasn't a box - it was a star that whirled on and off (no i wasn't hit on the head by my older brother :p)
Yes, it was a kind of flashing star.
