I can understand how the old tape cleaner worked but how does using a CD clean the lens of a CD/DVD?

I too wonder how they work, until I purchased one recently.

The disk has two sets of small brushes protruding from the playing surface of the disc. A drop of cleaning fluid is applied to each brush. I guess it is these wetted brushes which clean the laser diodes in the CD/DVD player/recorder.
