DSJ, i tend to give stars to anyone who has taken the time out to post on my question,
i just think its polite. I dont star if the answers are totally irrelevant, like a "hello" to me or another poster but generally i star all. Mind you, if i get a lot of answers i do give up along the way when it turns to chat.
I guess it just means they know ive read their answers and have appreciated them.
I haven't used this site for long & had no idea that one could leave a star rating. Just noticed that one had been left for me on another thread. You're right, it is a nice thing to do.
If I post a science question about the Milky Way, and then I like the answers I get does that mean I can give a rating of 100 billion stars? That is how many stars there are in our galaxy.
Sorry Jonny... it's a 3 red star max...plus some folk get a bit upset at only getting 2 or 1 stars... so it's either 3 stars all round or (easier option on a long chatty thread) just ignore the stars altogether and assume that most people don't actually need a morale boost. I prefer to give out gold stars personally, but this site doesn't show them !
Ok, hands up, that was a bit of a silly answer, I admit, but we have all heard the expression "You are a star" when someone expresses gratitude for something, usually among the working classes. Would they be right in feeling indignant, and expect us to say "You are a 3 star" or even "You are a golden star". I feel that being told I am "a star" is enough to make my day.
