Hi heatway, I would advise you to speak to your GP as only they are qualified to evaluate your problem. Alas, it sounds like one of the many ailments of ageing. My dad (67) has trouble remembering things and finds it extremely frustrating especially since his mind was always so sharp.

My dad has taken up doing puzzles, crosswords, suduko etc as he read somewhere that these activities help to keep the mind active and focused. I cant say I have noticed any difference but as he has only started doing these recently it is early days.

Hello heatway,
I will be 80 in six months time, and spend a fair time each day doing crosswords, sudoku, any sort of puzzle.
Tend to forget what wife tells me, but most husbands do, I believe. Can recall events of early life with great clarity,
but sometimes forget what lunch yesterday was.
Consult your doctor for advice, if worried.
LOL at wop/tpo - tend to forget what the wife tells me!!!!! That happens from the young to the very old!!!!! Nothing to do with memory, just selective hearing.

Tonyted, you arent 72, you are 76!
I am female and 73 years of age, coming up 74 and do not have a partner of any kind (having been on my own for 35 years. I have owned and managed my boarding kennels for just over 20 years, and I try to do puzzles and the GK crossword at least every week. I also manage my bank statements, keep track of the cash flow in the business, and am currently negotiating new contracts for 1st April with a veterinary surgeon and three local councils without employing a lawyer.

I agree entirely with the "try to keep your mind stretched" responses, but if worried see your GP, providing you have a good relationship with that individual doctor.

I forget names temporarily, (eg my junior staff) but nothing long term, still know what my car keys are for (although frequently putting them down and forgetting where I put them),

I find getting up early, working most of the day, cooking proper meals (I have my grown up son sharing my house, and I have an Aga) , watching for relaxation and going to bed early appears to keep me on the right track.

Good luck to you, Ann
I'm 43 and practically have no short term memory.

Gone.
