I have posted the question regarding a Smelly drain problem with our Washer Drier .

We changed from Persil Powder to Persil Liquid ,has anyone had any problems with this ,we use the Ball that you put inside the machine instead of using the drawer for the powder .
The liquid does have a very strong odour.
Thank you

I use the Ariel liquid and dosing balls (and have done for 20 years) and haven't had a problem with a smelly drain. Maybe that is just coincidence? I do however clean out the drawer in the washing machine where the powder (if I was using it) and the fabric conditioner go on, a regular basis and then put the washing machine on the hottest wash with no powder/liquid in it to give it a good clean.

We had a washer dryer once, and it developed the most horrendous smell.

The only cure was to get rid of it and get an ordinary washer.

At the minimum you need to throw a large dose of washing soda in and run it empty on the hottest wash possible, then always leave the door open when it is not in use so that it doesn't stay wet inside.
I use Ecover, it's good for the environment and comes in liquid form but I think you can get powder too.
I have had a Washer/dryer for 20yrs no smell problems, I use the washing powder tablets you put in a plastic container.
Don,t forget to dry the pool of water that collects in the rubber door seal.
And for those who don,t know yet the grey draining tube must be fixed behind the washer higher than the connection to the drain connection ,otherwise the smell could be dirty washing-up water flowing back from the sink into the washing machine and settling below the drum.
