Absolutely not, jake.

I agreed with Mrs Thatcher wholeheartedly when the GLC was abolished. It was never necessary, cost a fortune and achieved nothing that could not have been accomplished by local (i.e. borough council) government, national government or private enterprise. It was simply an expensive forum where yet another load of busybodies could exert their authority over us. This was regardless of which party held power.

I was aghast when plans for a London mayor were unveiled on two counts: firstly because it effectively saw London set up as one of the twelve regions into which the EU considers the UK to be split. (Im not in agreement with the regionalisation of the nation at all for a number of reasons). And secondly I knew that the mayor and his small administrative staff would balloon into a bureaucratic monster precisely like the GLC.

You can believe me or not as you wish, but I would not care if Harold MacMillan, Winston Churchill or Margaret Thatcher were candidates. London does not need a mayor.
"Which school should we send our son to?"
"I didn't even want a son."
"Yes, but we have one. So which school?"
"I never wanted the boy in the first place."
"Yes but, given that we have one, where shall we school him?"
"I preferred it when we didn't have a son."
"Yes, but we have one. Any opinion on a school?"
"Why have a son at all?"

etc etc etc
It's ok people, I can announce today that I am offering the 3rd way. I intend to stand as an independent.

R1Geezer for mayor, vote R1Geezer.

Manifesto later........
Quninlad, your argument is specious.

Somebody with a son always has a son unless he predeceases them or they give him away.

London does not always have to have a mayor.
i don't give a damn about dirty old London town, All I know is that I am fed up to the back teeth about london this and london that , even though its 125 miles away , perhaps not far enough for me , went there in 1974, not bothered if i never go back again ........... anyone for some jellied eels??
