Most support workers are like carers who help vulnerable people remain living in the community. They may do things like teach people how to manage their money, take them shopping, help with talking to officials and medical staff. It can be a difficult job (depending on the type of client) but also is very rewarding, especially when working with adults with learning disabilities. I wouldn't be keen on working with drug addicts or alcoholics though (personal opinion).
