Most support workers are like carers who help vulnerable people remain living in the community. They may do things like teach people how to manage their money,take them shopping,help with talking to officials and medical staff. It can be a difficult job (depending on the type of client) but also is very rewarding,especially when working with adults with learning disabilities. I wouldn't be keen on working with drug addicts or alcoholics though (personal opinion).
A support worker is also someone who works in a residential home, supporting service users to carry out everyday tasks.x
Support workers do not always work in residential homes katie,they also do as I said above.I used to be one.
