Why is tramsmit referred to as "TX", and receive referred to as "RX"  when ther are no "X" in either word??

Transmit TX, Recieve RX are used by amatuer & cb radio operators, PSE (Please) & TNX (Thanks) are also used.

I can see the X sounds a bit like ks on the end of thanks, but I guess X just replaces the last part of the word on the tx / rx issue.

I always believed that TX was an abrreviated version of Telex and that's where it was derived from. 
It's probably the same as Xmas - the X represents a chunk of the word left out
